Teairra Mari Thompson was born on December 2, 1987, in Detroit, Michigan. The beautiful R&B singer displayed her musical talent at an early age, singing for her family and friends. Her first performance, in fact, was in a talent show during the fifth grade, where she sang "No, No, No" by Destiny's Child. By the time she was 12, Teairra was recording demos in her cousin's basement. Although understandably raw, those early recordings made it clear that she had the chops to make it in the business.
By the time Teairra turned 13, word on the street had spread, and she was signed by Detroit's K.I.S.S. Productions. From that time forward, her time was split between school and the studio, where she cut tracks with an A-list lineup of collaborators including Helluvah, Disco D, Big Mike, Lyriq, and J.R..
Encouraged by her rapid progress and silky smooth pipes, K.I.S.S. arranged for Mari to team up with recording stars like Ray J and J-Kwon, and to get prime face time on shows on FOX and UPN. |
