| Mila J rocked the charts with her debut album Split Personality, a red-hot release full of rap and R&B tracks. “I have like two cuts that are full rap songs and the rest are raps on R&B songs,” she explains. |

| Mila J is a multifaceted performer. In addition to being a phenomenal singer and dancer, she’s also a slick rapper with mad skills on the mic. “I purposely put [my rapping] in the middle of my show,” she says. “I'm pretty much feminine throughout so when I do rap... [the audience] seems to feel it.” |

Jamila Chilombo was born on November 18, 1983 in Los Angeles, California. Because she is one of five siblings, Mila’s childhood was full of the playful chaos that comes from being part of a big family. “We had like a whole football team running around ‘cause we're all like a year and a half apart,” she says. “I'm the second oldest but I'm the middle sister, so I always felt like the middle child."
Luckily, Mila found a way of standing out from the pack thanks to her angelic voice and her uncanny dancing skills, both of which she showcased in Prince’s “Diamonds & Pearls” video when she was only 7 years old. Two years later, Mila’s burgeoning career received a major shot in the arm when she was introduced to record producer Chris Stokes, the genius behind the boy bands Immature and B2K. Stokes liked what he saw in Mila and her sister, and he hired the two girls as backup dancers for Immature.
Although she was excited to become a part of showbiz, Mila is the first to admit that life on the road wasn’t without its drawbacks: “My sister and I, we started touring at a young age. We were some working kids, so we didn't get the chance to just go out there and do the social thing like everybody else,” she reflects. “I'm not mad about not trying out for the basketball team because I know that a lot of people would've enjoyed growing up and meeting the stars I got to meet.” |
