| Marta Sanchez first achieved fame in the late 1980s as the singer for the Spanish band Ol Ol. After going solo in 1991, Marta achieved even greater fame throughout the Hispanic world, with five studio recordings to her name (and counting). |

Marta Sanchez Lopez was born on May 8, 1966, in Madrid, Spain. She and her twin sister, Paz, were born prematurely, and had to remain in hospital for some time. As often happens with twins, Marta and Paz were very close, although the two had opposite personalities. Paz, fittingly, was calm and shy, while Marta was outgoing and excitable.
Marta's father, Antonio Sanchez Camporro, was an opera singer, as was her godfather Alfredo Kraus. Naturally, Marta gravitated towards music at a young age, singing and dancing since she was 3. However, Marta's restless nature meant that she could never dedicate herself to only one activity at a time.
She tinkered briefly with instruments like castanets, but got more mileage out of a guitar she was given when she was 13. Marta even performed on a children's TV show when she was 14. Meanwhile, she attended a strict Catholic school in Madrid where she often got into trouble with the nuns who taught her. |
