"I just want to get my voice heard again and to allow people to know me outside of a group situation. I also want young girls who look up to me to know not to give up, even when people try and take you away from your destiny."

| Houston homegirl LeToya Luckett had her first rise to prominence as a member of the Grammy Award-winning quartet Destiny's Child. Six years after leaving the group, she's now on top of the world again thanks to the success of her self-titled solo album, LeToya. |

| LeToya Luckett is a survivor. Despite being dropped by one of the planet's hottest groups, this so-called 'H-Town Chick' has managed to bounce back with her very own solo album. 'God works in mysterious ways. He does things for a reason, and I think that everything that took place was the way that He wanted,' she reflects. 'I do miss the friendship, but at the same time, He has blessed me with my own gifts.' |

LeToya Nicole Luckett was born March 11, 1981 in Houston, Texas. The product of musical parents, LeToya sharpened her skills in church where she sang her first solo at the age of 5. "The lady just gave me the mic one Sunday and I sang", she recalls. "Right after that, I joined the children's choir and started doing all the school plays.'
It was in elementary school that she met another aspiring young singer named Beyonce Knowles. The pair immediately hit it off and in 1993 they formed an all-girl quartet along with fellow Houston natives Kelly Rowland and LaTavia Roberson. Although the name of the group would eventually change from Girls Tyme to Destiny's Child (A reference to a biblical verse), the lineup stayed the same.
After enjoying a groundswell of local support, the girls parlayed their tight sound and fresh, sexy image into a contract with Columbia Records in 1997. One year later, they released their self-titled debut, Destiny's Child. The dazzling breakthrough album eventually went platinum, thanks in part to popular chart-topping tracks like "No No No" and 'Get on the Bus.'
The girls quickly dismissed any fears regarding a sophomore slump in 1999 with the release of The Writing?s on the Wall. The album, which contained catchy hits like 'Bills Bills Bills' and 'Say My Name,' entered the Billboard 200 at No.6 en route to being certified platinum eight times.
Unfortunately for Destiny's Child, that tremendous success created a new set of problems. Despite the fact that their latest album was now selling millions of copies, LeToya and LaTavia felt they weren't being properly compensated. They also believed that the group?s manager, Matthew Knowles, was favoring his daughter Beyonce at their expense. |
