| Jasmin Wagner is more famous than you think. Known as Blmchen in Europe, Jasmin hit it big in Germany with songs such as "Herz an Herz," "Boomerang," "Ich Bin Wieder Hier," "Die Welt Gehort Dir," and "Leb Deinen Traum." She was the biggest techno star of the '90s in Germany. |

| Even though Jasmin Wagner sings mostly in German, we take pleasure in the fact that, should the local pool of pop queens dry up, we always have European babes like her to turn to. |

Jasmin Wagner was born in Hamburg, Germany, on April 20, 1980. Along with her mother Marija, father Fritz Joachim, and younger brother Christian, she grew up in a pleasant suburban house. She liked playing in the yard so much that her mother gave her the nickname of Blumchen, which means Blossom in English.
Having been featured in a catalog when she was 4, Jasmin later began singing in the school choir. Around the same time, she started playing piano with her best friend and her parents then got her piano lessons. However, Jasmin would have rather played the violin.
In the early '90s, Jasmin's parents went through tough times and eventually split up. Although Marija had custody of the children, their dad was still in the picture. Jasmin dealt with this tumultuous time by joining the local cheerleading squad, "Blue Angels."
Unbeknownst to this 14-year-old girl, this would be the most decisive move of her life. The cheerleading garnered her offers to dance in commercials and music videos.
In the summer of 1995, Jasmin was invited to dance at a rave party for a German music industry firm. It didn't take long for producers Stani Djukanovic and Arn Schlurmann, two German music heavyweights, to spot Jasmin.
Hearing her voice, they knew that it was a perfect match for her energetic demeanor. They signed her up and had her take some voice lessons to better her singing. Adopting the stage name Blumchen, the next move was the recording of the single "Herz an Herz." It was very successful, selling over 340,000 copies.
In March 1996, a new single, "Kleiner Satellit (Piep, Piep)," was released, although it didn't reach the same level of success as did the previous single. But Jasmin made a comeback with her third single, "Boomerang," released in June 1996.
A month before, Jasmin released her first album, Herzfrequenz, which was simultaneously released in English as Heartbeat, under the name Blossom.
In the fall of 1996, two more singles were released: "Du und Ich" and the Queen cover "Bicycle Race." |
