Christine Elizabeth Anderson came to be in Los Angeles, California, on March 25, 1980. But it was in Vancouver, Washington, that she grew up with her brother and sister. Always a child in need of performing, she began singing at the age of 3.
Being home-schooled and raised without a TV made for an atypical childhood for Christine. While other kids played video games and watched television, Christine was kidnapping neighborhood cats, collecting bugs and writing plays to perform with her siblings.
Her life took a drastic turn in 1989. When her age was still being counted in single digits, she sat down at a piano for the very first time after listening to Beethoven's "Fur Elise." Two hours later, she was playing it herself, having learned both the song and the instrument by ear.
Before the year was out, Christine was already performing publicly. Anyone who listened to her knew she was someone special: a master of the ebony and ivory.
As the '80s gave way to the '90s, Christine was already performing with a symphony, specifically as pianist for the Oregon Sinfonietta. In this capacity, she began collecting numerous State Syllabus Honors and Music Teachers Association awards.
Christine had marvelous energy, speed over the keys, and a technical mastery unequaled for someone her age. She seemed to be the quintessential child prodigy. Actually, that was exactly the comment of internationally acclaimed pianist Wladimir Jan Kochanski, who encouraged her to focus on performing Bach.
Following his advice, Christine entered six Bach competitions and won recognition in all of them, including two consecutive Junior Bach Festival gold medals that she garnered for her vigorous renditions of Bach's "Preludes" and "Fugues." |
