Born Christina Abbi Vidal on November 18, 1981, in the Latin quarters of Whitestone, Queens, Christina was spunky, exciting and determined from an early age. Her older sister, Lisa, was a TV actress whose footsteps Christina was set on following. As long as she can remember, acting was something she wanted to do.
Christina was always dancing and singing, whether in class, at home, or hanging out with her friends. In fact, by the time she was 9, she felt at home both in front of a camera and on stage. She guest-starred in a two-part episode of The Commish in 1995.
At age 10, one of Vidal's teachers told her about movie auditions in town. She told Christina it would be a good place to put her nascent talents to use. Christina jumped on the opportunity and beat out hundreds of kids to co-star with Michael J. Fox in Life With Mikey (1993).
Christina had no idea her big break would come so soon. Her parents enrolled her in the prestigious Fiorella H. LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts, and she would make the daily trip form Queens to Manhattan. This would be mirrored in her biggest TV gig in the not-so-distant future.
While still studying, she was cast in Welcome to the Dollhouse, a 1995 film about the tribulation of an unattractive teenage girl. Christina, of course, was not the protagonist, but her much prettier friend, Cynthia.
Upon finishing high school, she moved to Los Angeles to take a new job, that of interpreting Sophia del Bruno in the WB show Nick Freno: Licensed Teacher. Although her role was small and the series short-lived, Christina wouldn't be left behind.
In 1998, Vidal played Gabriella in the Disney Channel skater movie Brink! Her next role was that of Taina, a Puerto Rican girl in New York who dreams of making it big, in the Nickelodeon series of the same name. Strikingly similar to Christina's own life, her character lives in Queens, goes to performance school, and has a spicy attitude.
The show only lasted two years, but successfully showcased her many talents, and earned her a solid fan base. She has appeared in two films since then; Details in 2000, and Chasing Papi in 2003.
Big music studio heads recognized her singing prowess, and didn't hesitate to sign her. Although her first album was scheduled for release in the fall of 2002, it has yet to be released.
In 2003, Vidal got another big break: that of playing Maddie in Freaky Friday. In addition to acting, Christina also recorded the theme song for the movie, "Take Me Away."
She also sang in Will Smith's single for Men in Black II "Nod Ya Head - The Remix," and starred in the video.
Christina Vidal's latest project is playing officer Gabriella Lopez in the ABC series 10-8: Officers on Duty, a humorous look at the rookies of the L.A. Sheriff's department.
Thus far in her career, Christina has guest-starred on such TV shows as F/X: The Series, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and Touched by an Angel. She is currently single and lives in Los Angeles. |
