| It goes without saying that we’re totally enamored by Brandi Carlile’s vocal talent, but we also like her good looks, her wry sense of humor, and the self-confidence and dedication she brings to her music. |

Brandi Carlile was born on June 1, 1982, in Ravensdale, Washington, a small town 50 miles outside of Seattle. Growing up in the only house for miles, Brandi played in the woods, built forts and played music with her brother Jay and sister Tiffany. Brandi, whose mother is a singer, taught herself to sing when she was a little girl, and she started singing country songs onstage when she was only 8 years old.
Between the ages of 8 and 18, Brandi demonstrated a remarkable appetite for music. After being introduced to the music of Elton John -- which she later described as her “gateway drug” to rock ‘n’ roll -- Brandi taught herself the piano and, at 17, learned to play the guitar. Brandi had to discover music on her own during her teen years, because her high school was deficient in music programs, and she was indifferent to academics. “In high school,” she says, “the only thing I wasn’t into was high school.” |
