| Vanna White is America's Game Show Sweetheart and she gets our heads spinning like the Wheel of Fortune every time we tune in to check her out on the immensely popular game show. |
 |
| Vanna won fame and fortune -- and will forever be remembered as the letter turner/toucher -- on one of the most successful and longest-running game shows in the history of television, Wheel of Fortune. She's also made guest appearances on over a dozen top-rated sitcoms since the mid-1980s, usually appearing as herself, and she has acted in a handful of feature and made-for-TV movies. |

Vanna Marie Rosich was born on February 18, 1957, in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She attended the Atlanta School of Fashion Design and began working as a model during her late teens. Despite her beauty, it was her hands that first got her noticed, as she started out as a hand model, holding and displaying various products.
Her 10 fingers helped her make up to $1,000 a day, but Vanna hoped to get much more of herself seen. She took her portfolio to the Nina Blanchard Agency and secured an interview with the boss herself, but failed to get a contract because she was an inch too short.
With dreams of launching a career as an actress, White relocated to Los Angeles in 1980. She made her game show and overall national television debut as one of the first four contestants on The Price Is Right in June 1980, but never made it out of Contestant's Row.
She made her movie debut in Gypsy Angels later that year, and appeared in three films in 1981: she portrayed a Reston model in Looker, a high school cheerleader in Graduation Day, and another cheerleader in the made-for-TV movie Midnight Offerings.
In 1982, 25-year-old White tried out for the job as letter turner on the popular daytime game show The Wheel of Fortune, as a replacement for the departing Susan Stafford. The competition was stiff, with over 200 other young, attractive women auditioning for the same coveted gig. She made it amongst the top three finalists, and Merv Griffin, the show's producer, finally selected White to become Pat Sajak's assistant and co-host of the show. Vanna's Wheel of Fortune debut aired on December 13, 1982. |
