| Forget Armani, Versace, and Yves Saint Laurent, Stella McCartney is the new face of fashion. It's not that she achieved so much at such a young age that we admire; it's that she made it on her own. Well, so to speak. |

| Although she was born famous, being the daughter of the legendary Paul McCartney, Stella worked hard and became famous in her own right. A fashion designer of significant importance, she not only has stores on both sides of the Atlantic, but she designs clothes for such famous pals as Liv Tyler and Madonna. |

Stella McCartney was born September 13, 1971 in London, England, to Paul and Linda McCartney. The famous couple wanted their children to lead as normal an existence as possible, and made sure that they were kept firmly grounded in reality.
There wasn't a staff of nannies and bodyguards to ensure young Stella's education. She attended a local public school, or state school as they say in the UK, in East Sussex. She didn't even get the kind of allowance other kids in her situation might have been entitled to. When she wanted spending money, she had to clean dishes at a local restaurant.
Influenced by her free-spirited mother, Stella became interested in designing clothes at a young age. At 12 years old, she made her first jacket. Three years later, she interned for Christian Lacroix, working on his first fashion design collection. Later, she honed her skills on Savile Row for a number of years.
Reaching adulthood, she attended London's prestigious Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design, graduating in 1995. She says there was a lot of jealousy from other students who were out to belittle her, calling her "Daddy's Girl." But when her graduation fashion show came around, she demonstrated to everyone what she was made of. |
