| Lauren Hutton's success in a number of capacities over the years -- model, actress, TV personality, activist -- is nothing to sneeze at. Plus, her determination to age with dignity and grace proves that being over 50 isn't necessarily over the hill, and serves as an example to women everywhere. |
 |
| Model-turned-actress Lauren Hutton created the "supermodel" in the 1970s, being the first to exclusively be identified with a single cosmetics company -- in this case, Revlon. In the 1970s and 1980s, she appeared in a number of films, but has now turned back to modeling once more, as well as supporting a number of charitable causes. |

Lauren Hutton (n?e Mary Lawrence Hutton) was born on November 17, 1944, in Charleston, South Carolina, the daughter of Lawrence Hutton, a WWII airman. When her father died of a heart attack in his mid 30s, Lauren's mother remarried.
Lauren grew up in rural Florida, and, after high school, attended the University of Southern Florida for a year. At age 20, the young beauty had a brief stint as a Play..boy bunny. Next, she went to New York to seek fame and fortune, and was picked up by the prestigious Ford modeling agency.
Already, Hutton was advised to correct the slight gap in her teeth, but she wisely kept this "imperfection," which gave her an honest, down-to-earth look that other, more ethereal models lacked. Lauren's instinct proved correct, and in line with the times. In 1966, Lauren was discovered by Vogue magazine editor Diana Vreeland, inaugurating a longstanding relationship with Vogue. Over the years, Hutton would grace the magazine's cover over 25 times.
In the late 1960s and 1970s, Lauren Hutton's fame and success as a model continued to grow. In 1974, she ushered in the new breed of "supermodels" when she negotiated a contract with Revlon, in which Revlon products (specifically its Ultima II brand) would be associated exclusively with her; the agreement was unprecedented and Hutton became the first million-dollar model as a result. |
