Originally from Denver, Colorado, where she was born on January 30, 1972, Jill McGill started to play golf at the age of 12. Already extremely athletic, her interests included skiing and tennis. Jill grew to a towering 6 feet and it was evident that she had a future in sports. She moved to California after being accepted to USC, a renowned sports university.
As a collegiate golf player, McGill was a two-time All-American and finished fourth at the NCAA Championship in 1994, adding to her Amateur Championship win the year before. After graduating, she went professional and joined the Futures Tour and the Women Professional Golfers' European Tour (WPGET). It was not quite the big-time yet, but McGill excelled, taking just two cracks to gain admittance into the LPGA tour and therefore joining the top women golfers in the world.
Since being on the national stage in 1996, McGill has shown improvement every year, going from two top-15 finishes her first year to 14 top-tens and making multiple cuts in majors. She faired extremely well at the Michelob Light Classic and the Bank of Montreal Canadian Women's Open, both in 2001, putting in great rounds for two top-ten scores. While she earned $340,991 in the 2001 season, she has yet to win an LPGA event; but that is sure to change soon enough. |
