"I think it's particularly fun not being a full-time showbiz reporter because you still have the 'Oh, wow!' factor when you go out on the red carpet and there are these big stars that are standing there. But if you're doing this day in and day out, it becomes a little blas."

After high school she attended Stanford University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in communications and American studies. She then began her broadcasting career in Santa Barbara, California, where she worked as a reporter and anchor for KEYT-TV in the mid-'80s. Daryn's next reporting gig was at KTVK-TV in Phoenix, Arizona. During her five years with the station, Daryn was nominated for a handful of local Emmys and was selected as top reporter in the seven-state Rocky Mountain region.
In July of 1994, Daryn began her affiliation with CNN when she became an anchor and reporter for CNN/Sports Illustrated, a 24-hour sports news network. During this time, she also made her debut appearances on CNN, providing sports updates during the morning broadcasts.

In 2002, Daryn became the co-host of CNN Live Today, a late-morning news program. In May of that same year, she joined then-U.S. Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill and U2's Bono on a 10-day trip through Ethiopia, Uganda, Ghana, and South Africa, reporting on the pair's efforts to assess development assistance programs for the region. In October, she reported live on location from Maryland and Virginia, covering the manhunt for the D.C. area sniper. |
