Hughes hosts FSN 2's Dodgers pregame show, "Dodgers Dugout" and "Fox Sports Net Across America." Prior to joining FSN, Hughes worked at KVIA-TV, the ABC affiliate in El Paso, Texas where she served as the co-host of Good Morning El Paso, the area's number one rated morning show. For a brief moment in 2005, Carolyn Hughes caused a scandal in the world around the mound. The Fox Sports Net West reporter made Major League headlines last season after engaging in a well-publicized affair with Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Derek Lowe. The pair first started batting practice together during spring training when Hughes was assigned the Dodgers beat and became the host of the team's pre-game show, Dodgers Dugout.
Under ordinary circumstances, the affair might have dodged the media's radar, but the fact that Hughes and Lowe were both married caused a significant stir. Each of their significant others was more than happy to provide interviews and reveal details of the tawdry affair to the hungry media.
Hughes' husband, Tommy Saboni, recounted episodes of his wife's other infidelities, including a phone message from NBA legend Karl Malone. In the message, Malone suggested that Carolyn was probably looking for his "replacement." Lowe's wife, Trinka, also learned from the wives of other players that Hughes was well known for having been flirtatious with many other players on the Dodgers roster.
The ensuing publicity resulted in the breakup of both marriages and Hughes' suspension from the network. Not to be outdone, the Dodgers also banned Hughes from their clubhouse and press box. Fortunately for Hughes, she was permitted to continue hosting FSN Across America, but the show was later discontinued, and Hughes is now in career purgatory.
Despite the tremendously rocky pre-season of their relationship, Hughes and Lowe are now living together in Los Angeles. |
