| Tom Clancy has proven time and time again that he's a master storyteller by combining hyperrealism, gut-wrenching suspense and imaginative plot lines. If reading long, detailed books isn't your thing, there's always the Tom Clancy video game franchise, which simulates the type of scenarios found in his novels. |

| Perennial best-selling author Clancy earned fame in the 1980s as an originator of the techno-thriller novel. His audience grew by leaps and bounds since several of his books, including Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, The Sum of All Fears and The Hunt for Red October, have been adapted for the big screen. |

Clancy co-founded Red Storm Entertainment, a computer game company, in 1996. The novel Rainbow Six, featuring agent John Clark as the head of an elite anti-terrorist squad, was released in 1998, in conjunction with the launch of the game of the same name. Clancy's name has since appeared on other game franchises, including Rogue Spear, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell.
Two new series of books were launched in 1997. The first of the Tom Clancy Powerplays series, Politika, was followed by Ruthless.com in 1998. The first publication in the "Commanders" series, Into The Storm: A Study in Command (1997), was co-authored with General Fred Franks, Jr. Every Man a Tiger, co-written with General Chuck Horner of the U.S. Air Force, was issued in 1999.
The Bear and The Dragon from 2001 features Ryan and a limited war involving China, Russia and the U.S. Then 2002's Red Rabbit revisited Ryan during his days as a CIA analyst, and a plot to assassinate the Pope. For the third installment in the "Commanders" series, Shadow Warriors: Inside the Special Forces (2002), Clancy collaborated with the former chief of the U.S. Special Operations Command, General Carl Stiner.
The Teeth of the Tiger (2003) launched a new dynasty as Ryan retires as president while son Jack Ryan Jr.'s career as an intelligence specialist is on the rise. The non-fiction Battle Ready, written with retired General Anthony Zinni of the U.S. Marines, was released in 2004. |
