| An undisputed urban tycoon, Russell Simmons got his start by promoting old-school rap acts such as Kurtis Blow and Run-DMC (he’s actually the brother of Run-DMC’s Run). Soon after, he formed a record label with fellow producer Rick Rubin called Def Jam Records, the future home of such acts as LL Cool J, Mariah Carey and the Beastie Boys. Def Jam quickly proved to be just the beginning for the hugely ambitious Russell, who went on to create a successful clothing line (Phat Farm), the Def Comedy Jam television show and even an energy drink. |

| Despite his busy schedule, Russell has always managed to find time to pursue the various causes that remain dear to his heart. A devoted vegan, Russell has teamed up with PETA in a bid to improve the conditions within KFC’s slaughterhouses. He’s also a strong believer in the power of voting, and contributed to 2004’s “Get out the Vote” campaign leading up to the presidential election. Additionally, Russell was named a Goodwill Ambassador by the United Nations and will assist the organization in using hip-hop to promote a peaceful agenda around the world. |

Russell’s exceedingly hectic lifestyle shows no signs of slowing anytime soon, though his relentless work demands seem to have played a small part in his recent split from wife Kimora Lee Simmons. Despite the monstrous success of his Phat Farm clothing line, Russell is prepping the release of a new line called RWS, which will purportedly offer up T-shirts of an unusually high quality. Russell also remains an extremely active figure within the hip-hop community, and -- along with folks like Jermaine Dupri and Ludacris -- recently spoke to 1,500 Morris Brown College students about the importance of being fiscally conservative.
