| Robert Duvall has consistently turned out powerfully intense performances in films since the ‘60s, and delivered one of movie history's most memorable lines -- "I love the smell of napalm in the morning" -- in Apocalypse Now (1979). |
| Duvall made his movie debut in 1962's To Kill a Mockingbird. His profile increased immensely following strong supporting roles in The Godfather (1972) and The Godfather: Part II (1974). His other memorable roles include Colonel Kilgore in Apocalypse Now (1979), Bull Meechum in The Great Santini (1979), Gus McCrae in the TV mini-series Lonesome Dove (1989), Sonny Dewey in The Apostle (1997), and Doak “The Captain” Boykin in Thank You for Smoking (2006). |
After more than four decades, Duvall is still going strong with appearances in 2003's Open Range, co-starring and directed by Kevin Costner, and Gods and Generals, in which he portrayed Civil War General Robert E. Lee, an ancestor of his on his mother's side.
In 2005, he starred as Will Ferrell's highly competitive father in Kicking & Screaming, while his screen credits for 2006 include Thank You for Smoking, Lucky You and the television mini-series Broken Trail. |
