| Prince is one of the most successful recording artists of all time; known as much for his distinctive demeanor as for his music, Prince has scored huge hits like ”1999,” ”When Doves Cry,” ”Purple Rain,” ”Kiss,” and ”Cream.” He's also composed tunes that have topped the charts for other artists, such as ”I Feel For You” by Chaka Khan, ”Manic Monday” by The Bangles and ”Nothing Compares 2 U” by Sinead O'Connor. |

Upon the expiration of his music publishing contract with Warner Chappell in May 2000, T.A.F.K.A.P. decided to allow himself to be referred to as Prince again. In 2001, he released The Rainbow Children, which showcased his jazzier side and received some of his best reviews in years. On December 31st of that year, he married Manuela Testolini, a former Paisley Park employee, and also became a Jehovah's Witness.
The three-disc set One Nite Alone... Live! was released in 2002, while the following year Prince issued N.E.W.S, an instrumental album that earned him a Grammy nomination. He performed with Beyonce at the 2004 Grammys, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame the following month. Musicology (2004), released through a distribution deal with Columbia, became his best-selling album since 1991, reaching the Top five and earning double platinum status.
In April 2006, 3121 became Prince's first album to debut in the No. 1slot on Billboard's Top 200 chart. It also topped the R&B/Hip-Hop Album and European Album charts, thanks to appearances on Saturday Night Live and the Brit Awards in February. Ultimate, a two-disc hits and remixes compilation, was released in May 2006. |
