Since his junior year in high school, LeBron James has been a basketball phenom closely watched by the national eye. He was only the second high school player to be drafted first overall in the NBA draft and has made a seamless transition to the professional game. Just as he dominated fellow students in high school, James now frequently appears on highlight reels embarrassing grown men on the basketball court.
James has single-handedly revived Cleveland’s interest in basketball and in the 2005-06 season returned the Cavaliers to the playoffs for the first time since 1998. Finally fitted with a capable supporting cast, James finished an MVP-caliber season in 2006, in which he became the youngest player to average more than 30 points per game, and carried the Cavs into the second round of the playoffs.
He wears number 23 on his jersey and with each passing year, he continues to look as dominant as another player who wore number 23, Michael Jordan. |

James may play like a seasoned veteran on the court, but off of it he is still young at heart.
He’s made television appearances on BET and on his favorite show, The Simpsons, and he’s graced the cover the Playstation game NBA Street Showdown.
James has a passion for bicycling and has translated this interest into a way to give back to the community. LeBron’s King for Kid’s Bikeathon in June 2005 was the inaugural event for The James Family Foundation. The money raised from the event goes to help families in Northeast Ohio.
James is married to his high school sweetheart, Savannah, and is already a father to a baby boy. |

After pushing the seemingly untouchable Detroit Pistons to the limit in the second round of the NBA playoffs, James now has his team believing in a championship run. He has continued to improve in each of his first three seasons in the NBA, increasing his points per game average and field goal percentage each year, and he’ll likely continue this trend into his fourth season.
With a young core around him and a bright coach, James is poised to make the Cavaliers a power player in the Eastern Conference.
As for his plans in the long term, James signed a surprisingly short three-year contract extension with the Cavaliers, leaving the door open to a possible departure down the road. After all, a superstar like James could probably better cash-in on his talents in a city like New York or Los Angeles. |
