His career is riding high thanks to the role of agent Jack Bauer in FOX's hit series 24, and he's provided his distinctive voice to films like Phone Booth (2002) and The Wild (2006). |

After a successful career in the movies that spanned nearly two decades, Sutherland landed his first television series role as Agent Jack Bauer in FOX-TV's innovative political drama 24. The show proved to be a bonafide hit, both with critics and in the ratings, and he quickly became a bigger star on TV than he had ever been on the big screen, earning several major awards and nominations for his acting talents.
Despite his small-screen success, Sutherland continued to work in movies throughout 2002, appearing as a hit man in Desert Saints, a police officer in Dead Heat, and as The Caller in the thriller Phone Booth. The following year, he played famed French artist Paul Gauguin in Paradise Found (2003), and was named a co-executive producer for his award-winning series 24.
In 2004, he had to give up the role of his real-life grandfather Tommy Douglas in Prairie Giant: The Tommy Douglas Story because of scheduling restraints with 24.
Besides starring in the fifth season of 24 in 2006, Sutherland's distinctive voice was put to work again in the animated feature The Wild. He provides the voice for Samson the Lion, starring alongside Jim Belushi and William Shatner. |
