| Travolta became a TV star and teen heartthrob playing Vinnie Barbarino on Welcome Back, Kotter back in 1975. He became an international celebrity thanks to star-making roles in Saturday Night Fever (1977) and Grease (1978). |

Travolta continued to take on a variety of roles throughout the late '90s, playing an aggressive lawyer in A Civil Action and a senator in pursuit of the presidency in Primary Colors in 1998. The following year, he starred as Army investigator Paul Brenner in The General's Daughter, opposite Madeleine Stowe. In 2000, he played a TV weatherman in the comedy Lucky Numbers and an alien in the expensive box-office flop Battlefield Earth, based on the novel by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard.
In 2001, Travolta starred in the conventional thriller Domestic Disturbance with Vince Vaughn, and alongside Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry in the cyber-tech thriller Swordfish. He returned to the big screen in 2003 to play an Army Ranger turned DEA agent in the military thriller Basic.
In 2004, Travolta portrayed a fire brigade captain in Ladder 49, a former literature professor in the indie film A Love Song for Bobby Long and crime boss Howard Saint in The Punisher. He reprised the role of Chili Palmer in Be Cool, the 2005 sequel to Get Shorty.
Travolta is staying busy in 2006, with roles in Lonely Hearts and 2004: A Light Knight's Odyssey, in which he lends his voice. |
