| Gary Sinise has managed to balance a successful film, stage, and, more recently, TV career while remaining something of a Hollywood outsider |
| After years as a star of American theater, Sinise gained notice for his film adaptation of John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men in the early '90s. Some of his most remembered movie roles have been in Apollo 13, Ransom, The Green Mile, and as the legless Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump. He can currently be seen on CBS's CSI: NY. |
In March 2001, Sinise returned to theater to portray McMurphy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest on Broadway, and picked up a Tony Award nomination for his work. He next appeared on the big screen in A Gentleman's Game later that year. 2002 found the actor co-starring in Made-Up, and Impostor with Madeleine Stowe, which he also produced.
Sinise received an honorary degree from Amherst College in 2003. That same year, he appeared as Nathan Zuckerman in The Human Stain, as well as in the telefilm Fallen Angel.
In 2004 he returned to TV to star as Detective Mac Taylor in the CBS spin-off CSI: NY; his character was introduced in an episode of CSI: Miami during May sweeps. Sinise also appeared in the features The Big Bounce and The Forgotten in 2004.
But television won't be keeping Sinise from the big screen; Gary's set to star alongside Laurence Fishburne in the crime movie, Scheherazade, which is currently in production. |
