| In September 2001, Damien Rice released "The Blower's Daughter," a captivating ballad that took Irish radio by storm and reached the Top 20. By 2002, Rice's debut album, O, hit stores and immediately gained critical acclaim. A platinum-selling artist in Ireland and famous in the UK as a great live act, Rice gained notoriety across the pond after 2004's Closer prominently played "The Blower's Daughter" throughout the film. |

As Damien toured Europe, fans in the United States were taking note of this new sensation. In 2003, a panel of judges that included Perry Farrell, The Neptunes, Mos Def, Dave Matthews, and Erykah Badu, awarded Rice with the Shortlist Music Prize, which recognizes the success of emerging artists.
Rice also became even more popular as "The Blower's Daughter" and "Cannonball" were featured in the 2004 films Closer and In Good Company, respectively. His slow, melodic tracks could not be ignored, which led to more buzz surrounding this Irish folk singer.
On tap for Damien is a second studio album and more touring in the summer of 2005. |
