| As a lifelong Red Sox fan, Ben Affleck knows a thing or two about reversals of fortune. After all, this Boston-bred leading man won an Oscar in 1997 for Good Will Hunting only to see his career end up in disarray after a succession of box-office flops. Fortunately, it appears that Affleck is now back on top, thanks to his impressive acting turn in Hollywoodland (2006), a gritty film noir that examines the death of legendary actor George Reeves. “God help me if I ever do another movie with an explosion in it,” he says. “If you see me in a movie where stuff is exploding, you'll know I've lost all my money.” |

More than just a pretty face, Ben Affleck is also a talented writer who will next apply his trade in Gone, Baby, Gone (2007), a dark drama about two Boston detectives assigned to investigate a little girl’s kidnapping. The film, which stars Michelle Monaghan, also marks his feature-length directorial debut.
Affleck has also received considerable attention in the past for his interest in politics, which he showcased in 2004 by tirelessly campaigning for democratic presidential nominee John Kerry. "I think there's a real nobility to public service," he says. "It would be fun to run on a platform I really believed in, without being beholden to the win-at-all-costs mentality." |

| Look for Affleck next in Smokin’ Aces, a comedy about a Las Vegas performer who testifies against the mob. Beyond that, it’s anyone’s guess. “I never know what my next move will be in Hollywood,” he admits. “It's such an unpredictable town. I think the next logical step in my career would be to start my own filmmaking empire like Harvey and Bob Weinstein did so many years ago.” |
