Biography

Tyra was born in Los Angeles on December 4th, 1973, to a very loving and supportive family. Despite the divorce of her parents when she was only six years old, and the torments of her older brother Devin, Tyra's youth was happy and trouble-free. Though it might now be hard to believe, Tyra was a tall, skinny and awkward adolescent. She was constantly teased by her brother and her classmates, and often ran home crying to her mother for comfort. Then, late in high school, everything changed for her. She filled out her skinny frame, began to work out and finally decided to become a model.



Tyra pursued that goal with the determination that now marks all of her activities. Her modeling career started after she signed a contract with Elite Modeling Agency. She was the first color woman who appeared on the cover of magazines like GQ, Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue and the Victoria's Secret catalog. Soon she became an important name in the fashion industry and she received jobs to appear in commercials and advertisements for brands like Pepsi, Nike, Tommy Hilfiger, Victoria's Secret, Cover girl, Swatch, Michael Kors, Anna Sui, Liz Claiborne, Lenscrafers, Ralph Lauren and Dolce & Gabbana. Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Cosmopolitan and ELLE are some of the important magazines she was seen into.



She hosts her own television show called "The Tyra Banks Show". Having so much celebrity brought her roles in movies and she became a great actress. She is host and judge of America's Next Top Model. Her first role was in the television series "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air". "American Dreams", "Larceny", "Eight Crazy Nights" or "Coyote Ugly" are some of the movies she played in. She was also present in music videos like Tiara Summers' "Wild Girls", Michael Jackson's "Black or White" and in George Michael's "Too Funky". Being so sexy and beautiful has helped her lot, but she is a woman who makes charity actions and likes helping people a lot.
