JUSTIN BIEBER NOMINATED FOR BET AWARD
Popular Canadian teen idol Justin Bieber has been nomination on Tuesday for a 2010 Black Entertainment Television award, for category of Best New Artist.
Justin Bieber, the white teenage pop singer with the aerodynamic hair, will compete in the best new artist category and was nominated for the awards alongside such prominent black performers as rapper Jay-Z, who led the field with five nominations, and his wife Beyonce, who scored four.
BET Awards organizers said, "Justin Bieber has crossed the color boundaries in the way hip-hop has the other way for a number of years", and Stephen Hill, BET head of programming, praised the 16-year-old for the "rhythm in his music... He makes the type of music our audience likes."
The awards, which generally only recognize black entertainers, singers, actors and athletes, will see Bieber battle it out against fellow rising stars Nicki Minaj, B.o.B, Young Money and Melanie Fiona.
Rapper Jay-Z has the most nominations with five and will compete against wife Beyonce Knowles for Video of the Year, Best Collaboration and the Viewers' Choice accolade.
