Sammi Cheng , 1972 born Cantonese girl entered into the music industry through annual TV singing contest, New Talent singing awards in 1988 at the age of 16. She got third rank in competition. Music recording company capital artist found some uniqueness in her and offered a recording contract. During her adolescence she gave three successful albums Sammi, Holiday and Never Too Late.

Sudden alteration always comes in each and every human on the earth. Same way by 1993 Sammi brought absolute change in her life. To come in the attention of western people she dyed her color orange. She used to speak English in its Cantonese way.

Sammi Cheng then came up with her 4th studio album “Sammi's Happy Maze”, which included the hit single, Chotto Matteo. Her new image was consistent perfectly with the new single, which was a copy of a very Japanese song by Maki Ohguro. The success lifted up Sammi to sharpen her career to the peak point of one worthy of an A-lister.

During 1994, Sammi Cheng continued to emphasize on her wild, new image. Her first album of that year was Big Revenge. She tried to appear like young model.  The album gave the mega hit Ding Dong, which became one of here super duper hit songs. Along with fame and spectacular achievements she was too criticized by media and people.Critics revealed that Sammi deliberately westernized her Cantonese. Instead of saying ding dong she used to speak Deen Dong.

Along with criticism the song was most popular in that year. Throughout the rest of 1994, Sammi continued to release hit single after hit single, such as: Buhda Was A Taliban, Ten Commandments, Not Your Typical Love, Passion Island, Romeo and Juliet of Sarajevo, Amnesia and Bitter Love.

She continued to launch one by one array of albums like

III. Not your typical love

IV. Passion island

V. Romeo and Juliet of Sarajevo

VI. Amnesia and bitter love

Some of the album tracks of Ten Commandments banned by radio station, as they were considered to porn sound track. This was one of the sudden enhancements of public eye towards Sammi. She became more attentive in public eye.

During commencement 1995, Sammi wanted a fresh start in her career. She did not appear in public eye for half a year. She did not renew her contract with capital artist. She signed a contract with Warner music. She dyed her hair black as they were earlier. She absolutely changed her self as she used to appear. She got free from her wild image.

Warner music released first album of Sammi “can’t give you up” got too much popularity by people. Three hit songs were (i) Gentlemen you are so fine (ii) can’t give up (iii) the mourning song for love. In the same time, Panasonic also signed Sammi as their brand ambassador for the promotion of their new CD-walkman. The theme song for their gadget was “can’t you give up”. This was great success for both Panasonic and Sammi. Sammi again came into lime light. Sammi got so many awards like “best single of the year” in 1995. The song “can’t you give up” earned so much popularity as name “Sammi” became buzzword in the Hong Kong.

In 1996, accompanying with Warner music, Sammi plunged to expand the market and popularity in the other countries. They release mandarin language album “Worth it”.This album became best selling album in Taiwan and other mandarin speaking countries. Sammi also worked in film with romantic comedy, “Feel 100%”, with   Ekin Cheng and Gigi Leung.  This movie was blockbuster movie and was very successful in the market.

With Warner music Sammi again release new second album “can’t let go”. It got greater success with hit songs like (i) beware of women (ii) can’t let go (iii) owe nothing. Electronic leader Panasonic again decided to use hit song “can’t let go” for their new upcoming CD-walkman model. So many sparkling stars gave more importance to life than their music career. So Sammi Cheng considered as “pop divas”.

In the end of year 1996, Sammi organized her first concert “Sammi’s x-dimension concert”. Sammi became center of attention in the concert. During concert Sammi released her last album of 1996 “deep passion”. This album had successful hits like “the angel of Calcutta, Mother Teresa”, let’s talk about love, etc.

During 1997, Sammi enjoyed status of top pop diva in Hong Kong.  She launched a new album in mandarin language was “waiting for you”. She also released another Cantonese album “our theme song”. Both the albums were very successful. In the same year she worked in movie “killing me tenderly”. Warner bros. announced her second concert “Sammi star show”. This was very marvelous as previous one. Her last Cantonese album was “the language of living”.
