| Talisa Soto was a top fashion cover girl through much of the '80s, and switched gears to become an actress in the latter part of that decade. She appeared in the 1989 James Bond film Licence To Kill, 1992's The Mambo Kings and 1995's Don Juan DeMarco, but she's perhaps best known as Princess Kitana from the Mortal Kombat flicks. |
| Ultra sexy Talisa Soto helped break some barriers for Latina women in the worlds of international modeling and Hollywood during the 1980s and early '90s. |
Talisa Soto (née Miriam Soto) was born on March 27, 1967, in the New York City borough of Brooklyn, and raised in Northampton, Massachusetts. Being from one of the very few Puerto Rican families in town, she considered herself unpopular and somewhat of a loner during her school years.
After initial rejection from certain modeling agencies for being too ethnic looking, she signed with Click Model Management, and soon relocated to Europe to work in Italy and Paris for the British edition of Vogue magazine. During her years as a model, the rechristened Talisa made the covers of such fashion industry publications as Vogue, Glamour and Mademoiselle. Despite her success as a model, she had her heart set on becoming an actress. |
