Sarah Paulson calls Tampa Bay, Florida, her birthplace, but it was Brooklyn, New York that raised her. Born on December 17, 1974, Sarah was transplanted to New York City during her elementary school years. She went to high school in Manhattan, where she attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and the High School for Performing Arts. Her aesthetic education quickly developed her appreciation for the performing arts.
Sarah made her Broadway debut in The Sisters Rosensweig in 1993, at the age of 18. It was that same year that she performed in the off-Broadway production of Talking Pictures. Sarah’s appreciation for the stage was now turning into a great talent and a promising career.
Sarah’s Broadway talents were not ignored by bigwig television producers for long. She landed a role on NBC’s Law & Order in 1994. The next spring, Sarah got her first made-for-TV movie part in the CBS production of Friends at Last. Due, in part, to Sarah’s wonderful acting, CBS elected to turn the movie into a full-fledged dramatic series.
Sarah’s most notable role during her early 20s came in the television hit American Gothic. The show was known by many and loved by all who watched as Sarah’s acting in the series was absolutely captivating. Unfortunately, and despite the show’s early success, it ended prematurely for reasons unknown to the public. But, of course, the thick-skinned Sarah Paulson bounced back from the loss of her biggest role ever with another television hit, Jack & Jill. Throughout the ‘90s, Sarah made numerous notable appearances in shows like Touched by An Angel and Cracker.
In the same year Jack & Jill premiered, so did the movies The Other Sister and Held Up, where Sarah had significant roles. In 2000, Sarah got a role in the biggest movie production of her now veteran career in the romantic comedy What Women Want. She played Mel Gibson’s secretary, and was an instrumental part in the movie’s rave reviews. |
