Sadie Liza Vaughan was born on June 19, 1967, in London, England. She has four sisters and five brothers, and her father, David, is a left-wing anarchist who also did some work for The Beatles.
Her bohemian childhood -- she has a sister named Sunshine Tara Purple Velvet and a brother named Gabriel Jupiter --- led to her decision to run away from home as a teenager, although she had already established herself as an up-and-coming actress by then (she landed her first job at the tender age of 3, with a toy commercial). Her teen years were rambunctious and rebellious, and her acting work was virtually non-existent during this period.
Sadie met and married her first husband, Gary Kemp, before she turned 21, and the relationship produced a son named Finlay. Kemp, best known for his participation in the '80s band Spandau Ballet, received critical acclaim for his work in 1990's The Krays, in which he appeared with Sadie and played a notorious British gangster.
The couple went on to appear in two more movies together, one of which was filmed while they were separated (the film, 1994's Magic Hunter, even required the two to participate in a love scene).
Sadie met Jude Law in 1993 while the two were filming Shopping, and despite their five-year age difference, their relationship lasted almost a decade and produced three children: Rafferty, Iris and Rudy.
She and Jude went on to form a production company named Natural Nylon with three other fledgling British actors -- Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller and Sean Pertwee. The company has gone on to produce such films as 1999's eXistenZ (which starred Law) and 2000's Nora (which starred McGregor).
Though Sadie and Jude experienced a scare in 2002 when their daughter accidentally swallowed an ecstasy tablet at a party, their marriage seemed to be in healthy shape.
Apparently, this was just an illusion, as Sadie and Jude split in 2003 amid rumors of his womanizing ways, and Sadie wound up with a 10-million pound settlement. Her first post-marriage role was a challenging one, as she stepped into the shoes of an oppressed Jew in 2001's Uprising.
Dating-wise, her most notable relationship post-Jude has been with flamenco guitarist, Jackson Scott -- though the two have reportedly called it quits.
Sadie remains good friends with Jude and even takes trips with him -- fueling speculation that the two may reconcile their differences and give their relationship another go.
Sadie is currently staying out of the limelight, choosing to spend time with her children and focus on her fashion label. |
