Maura Tierney was born February 3, 1965, in Boston, Massachusetts, and raised in Hyde Park. She is the daughter of Joseph Tierney, a long-standing Boston City Councilor and mayoral candidate, and Pat Tierney, a real-estate agent. Maura also has two younger siblings: a brother and a sister. After going to high school at Notre Dame Academy in Hingham, an all-girls Catholic school, Tierney attended New York University, where she received a BFA degree in Theater Studies. At NYU, Maura appeared in productions of Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean; Baby With the Bathwater; Danny and the Deep Blue Sea; Talking With; and Food.
