Born November 16th, 1958, in Fremont, Nebraska, Mary Margaret Helgenberger was raised in the Cornhusker farming town of North Bend, Nebraska. Growing up in a close-knit community, Marg (she shortened her middle name) began to daydream about what lay outside her little world. She began to involve herself in extra-curricular activities as a way to escape and soon discovered that she had a future on stage.
After starting her university education at Kearney State College, she transferred to Chicago's Northwestern University, where she majored in speech and drama and performed in plays such as A Streetcar Named Desire. In another school production, this time The Taming of the Shrew, a scout spotted her and immediately told her about a possible role on the soap opera, Ryan's Hope. After taking a rain check in order to complete her studies, she signed on with the daytime show and stayed there from 1982 to 1986. |
