Kelly Lynch
"I've been the beautiful girl... I did that. I was on the covers of magazines. I was able to model. I looked good in a bikini. But it's boring. It's a lot of work, and you don't get a lot back from it."

What makes her so famous?
Now in her mid-40s, Kelly's been making men's eyes pop out of their heads for years as one of the top models in the world. But that's just the tip of the iceberg: Kelly has also starred in many hit movies, including Cocktail (1988) alongside Tom Cruise, Drugstore Cowboy (1989) with Matt Dillon, Virtuosity (1995) with Denzel Washington, and as a foxy villain in 2000's babe-filled Charlie's Angels. These days, Kelly is once again making waves on the big screen with her leading role in The Jacket, opposite Adrien Brody.
Why we adore her..., as we do?
This model-turned-actress has been gracing our televisions and the silver screen for more than 20 years. Men everywhere have been drooling over her since she first glided over the fashion runways in her earlier days as a model for the Elite fashion agency. And we've been ogling ever since she became a Hollywood star.
Biography
Kelly Colleen Lynch was born on January 31, 1959, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her parents divorced when she was a child, but she spent a lot of time hanging out and working with her father, Robert Lynch, at his now-closed Boulevard Restaurant in Golden Valley, Minnesota.

Much of Kelly's youth was spent performing, which was a harbinger of the career she would eventually follow. As early as age 4, Kelly put on plays, sang and danced in the living room for friends and relatives.

Kelly clearly liked the spotlight and had a natural affinity for drawing attention to herself. While attending Golden Valley High School, she enrolled in a modern-dance class. She was so confident that she waited until the night before the final exam to create her dance routine. The result? She got an A+ for her performance. Kelly also studied acting at the renowned Guthrie Theater Drama School in Minneapolis.

But Kelly's good fortune changed when she was 21; she suffered life-threatening injuries in a car accident on her way home from visiting her mother. Her legs were shattered and doctors even told her parents she might die. But the persistent Kelly never gave up. Although she initially became addicted to her pain medication, she persevered and, after a year's worth of rehab, finally emerged drug-free and able to walk again.

With a new outlook on life, Kelly quit her day job as a flight attendant and moved to New York to become an actress or a model. Once there, she studied acting with famed teacher Sanford Meisner before a chance encounter with a talent agent in an elevator sent her on her way to a six-figure, three-year modeling career with Elite.

The 1980s were good to Kelly. In 1986, she had a daughter, Shane, and in 1988, she was cast opposite Tom Cruise in Cocktail, and in Bright Lights, Big City. But it was in 1989 that she finally caught the eyes of moviegoers in Gus Van Sant's acclaimed film, Drugstore Cowboy, in which she played a gorgeous, yet disturbed, drug addict opposite Matt Dillon. That same year, she was in Road House with Patrick Swayze.

Though she was set for major breakout roles afterward, she decided to look for more esoteric scripts, going as far as turning down the lead role in Basic Instinct, which eventually went to Sharon Stone. Kelly thought the role was "too goofy."

She was also reported to be the No. 2 choice for the female lead in Quentin Tarantino's mega-hit Pulp Fiction, but she lost out to Uma Thurman.

In 1992, Kelly married talented writer Mitch Glazer, who wrote 1988's Scrooged and 2003's The Recruit. Though her projects were relatively low-key throughout the '90s, with notable exceptions in 1990's Desperate Hours, 1995's Virtuosity and 1998's Homegrown, Kelly has stormed back with her latest role in 2005's The Jacket. Plus, she has a recurring role on the new racy TV show The L Word.

Upcoming projects include roles in At Last, and opposite Martin Donovan in The Visitation. Kelly keeps proving there's no shortage of work for women her age and caliber in Hollywood.
