Jane Krajkowski was born on October 11, 1968, in Parsippany, New Jersey. She is of Polish lineage. Her father, Ed, is an engineer, while her mother, Barbara, was a school teacher; both parents had active roles in the Montville, NJ community theater. Jane began taking dancing lessons when she turned 3. At age 13, she enrolled in New York City's prestigious Professional Children's School. Other alumni of the school include Uma Thurman, Sarah Jessica Parker and Christina Ricci.
Jane's first notable big screen appearance was in the 1983 comedy hit National Lampoon's Vacation. Her next job was a recurring role on the TV soap opera, Search for Tomorrow, for which she received an Emmy nomination. In 1987, she played a small role alongside Glenn Close and Michael Douglas in the hit thriller Fatal Attraction and performed in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Starlight Express. She returned to the small screen for the next few years, including a role in another soap opera, Another World.
In 1990, she briefly dated lyricist Charles Hart and returned to the theater. That same year, she received a Tony award nomination for her role in the musical Grand Hotel. She also appeared in made-for-TV movies like When We Were Young (1989) and Women & Men 2 (1991), and in the TV miniseries Queen (1993).
In 1996, Jane starred opposite Brendan Fraser in Mrs. Winterbourne and with Sarah Jessica Parker in the unsuccessful Broadway musical, Once Upon A Mattress. The following year, her career finally took off when she landed one of the coveted female roles on TV's smash hit, Ally McBeal, as nosy secretary Elaine Vassal. Jane also lent her vocal talents to the Ally McBeal Christmas CD.
She continued to work onstage and in film during her years on Ally McBeal, appearing in minor films such as Dance with Me (1998), Go (1999) and The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas (2000). She also appeared in the Dixie Chicks' "Goodbye Earl" video in 2000.
After the Ally McBeal finale in 2002, Jane continued to expand her resume doing voice work for the animated feature film Ice Age (2002). Jane next appeared with Lisa Kudrow in the film Marci X (2003) and returned to the stage once more to star with Antonio Banderas in Nine, the musical version of director Federico Fellini's film 8 . The role required her to make an acrobatic, sexy entrance by being lowered by a bed sheet wearing scant clothing; she even won her first Tony for the role.
In 2004, she starred in the remake of the film Alfie alongside Jude Law. Later that year, she appeared in the musical TV adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, singing and acting with Kelsey Grammer and Jason Alexander. Jane's next project was the low-budget film, Pretty Persuasion (2005).
Jane is currently starring opposite Ewan McGregor in a production of Guys and Dolls at London's Piccadilly Theatre; in fact, she moved to London in 2005 to be in the show.
She is now romantically involved with 25-year-old actor Julian Ovenden, whom she met in London in 2005. Her next major film project, titled Simply Halston (2005), will showcase her acting and singing talents; she will portray theater icon Liza Minnelli alongside Alec Baldwin. |
