Eva La Rue (ne Eva Maria LaRuy) was born on December 27, 1966, in Long Beach, California. Raised in Norco, California, Eva has two sisters and one brother. By the age of 6, Eva had begun appearing in TV commercials, singing jingles. But she remained home throughout her adolescence, graduating from Norco Senior High School in 1985.
Eva turned to acting professionally soon after, with appearances in a number of TV shows in the late '80s and early '90s, such as Rags to Riches, Charles in Charge, Santa Barbara (she had a steady role on the series in 1988), Perfect Strangers, and Married... with Children.
In addition, Eva had roles in a long succession of mostly forgettable movies during this time, such as The Barbarians (1987), Dangerous Curves (1988), Heart Condition (1990), Legal Tender (1991), Ghoulies 3: Ghoulies Go to College (1991), Body of Influence (1993), and RoboCop 3 (1993). Eva also modeled for Frederick's of Hollywood.
In 1993, Eva was cast on the long-running soap opera, All My Children. Playing the ever-professional neurologist Dr. Maria Santos Grey, she established her own fan base as she married show regular Edmund Grey, played by John Callahan. She befriended future Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar, who was also a regular on All My Children at the time. Eva also became friends with her co-stars Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos (who plays her brother on All My Children), and is the godmother of the real-life couple's first child, Michael Joseph.
After a few years of playing husband and wife on TV, Eva and John Callahan married for real in November 1996. The two teamed up to host the TV show Weddings of a Lifetime in 1995, and Eva also did hosting duty on The World's Funniest Videos in 1996.
The mid-1990s also saw Eva in a number of TV movies, most notably A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes: The Annette Funicello Story, in which she played the lead.
Eva left All My Children in 1997, apparently worn-out from the grueling demands of the soap and eager to take on new challenges. She had a guest appearance on Diagnosis Murder in 1998, and from 2000 to 2001, Eva had a recurring role on the hit drama, Third Watch.
In December 2001, Eva gave birth to a daughter, Kaya McKenna Callahan, and in 2002, Eva returned to All My Children, reprising her original role.
Eva and John Callahan's All My Children characters even remarried on the show, but in real life, things weren't as picture perfect. By 2004, the couple had filed for divorce. Yet even as her personal life became troubled, Eva didn't lack for professional success.
Eva first became a correspondent and then moved up to become a weekend anchor of the TV tabloid show Extra!, and in 2004 she won a Gracie Allen Award (for Individual Achievement as Lead Actor in Daytime Drama) for her work on All My Children. In 2004, Eva also made a cameo appearance on the ABC sitcom, Hope & Faith, which stars Kelly Ripa.
In addition to her 1997 Outstanding Supporting Actress Daytime Emmy nomination, Eva La Rue was also nominated for a Daytime Emmy for her song "Dance Again With You" in 2004. A regular singer, Eva released her first album, Only You, which is for sale exclusively on her website, evalarue.com. |
